Advertising models have had to change to reflect how we respond continuously since the inception of it. No more so than how it now transforms the internet into a wide money churning market place.
But how do the latest trends in marketing affect you and your general online and offline experience?
Wheres the X button and NO i dont want to buy that!!
We all hate the kinds of advertising that stream to our eyes every day but we are becoming more and more blind and well ignorant towards it.
So, how do advertisers respond to these issues?
We may flick the channel on TV when adverts start, or change the channel, or record on Sky Plus and skip the adverts later.
We glance quickly at bill board posters and may just subconsciously be aware of the product.
We either dont answer the door to salesmen or salesmean folks or simply answer the door and tell them to 'go to ......' or simply say 'not interested.....goodbye'. Not many closes in sales get past that total ignorance as we do want to be talked over, or sold to, or manipulated.
We do not notice PPC ads on Google or adsense ads that much, in fact, most are blind to those ads...
PopUp ads get the 'wheres the close button.....how do i stop these....' lack of appreciation responses...
This leaves most traditional methods in a similar boat like leaflet drops which lie on the floor for weeks or just get binned, and sales mail that is opened, read briefly, and then to the bin....
So, how do advertisers of products respond to people attitudes and adapt to the latest trends in marketing, and how is sales volume and customer confidence achieved.
Not all grey....
As bleak as it seems, most brands reach their audience as many legitimate and less 'in your face' techniques exist to place products in front of a targeted audience:
Social Media posts on facebook and twitter to followers
B2B connections and discussions on Linkedin
Opt In Forms for mailing lists on blogs and commercial pages
Articles or Press Releases informing people of product benefits on news sites
Direct Marketing or tele Marketing to people who have already expressed an interest via a form, online, etc
Some traditional methods like leaflets, canvassing and direct sales still work despite the reactions of the public. A more subtle way that does well is handing out Business Cards at meetings and seminars.
