Squidoo like Hubpages allow you to take command of a niche and provide informational and therefore useful content to readers. And as long as you approach your readers in this way rather than selling in every paragraph, you will reap the rewards.

You can use Squidoo to host all kinds of content and point links to another domain. Great for back links. This can be repeated within the comments where you can also create back links. Just dont spam and write rubbish, and you will get so much free traffic to your lenses and linking pages.

Use the Squid Utils tools wisely, dont go blasting RSS feeds all over the web. Keep it relevant and update your lenses with fresh content whenever possible - new products, news in the niche, any freebies, etc.
